We have a similar experience. I learned that I needed help from volunteering at my church’s “recovery” service. I’m not an alcoholic but learn from this experience that I am a codependent. Growing up with a dad who suffered with mental illness, I had never learned that I left childhood with any kinds of issues. 😅 I believe I was fine and “stronger” from my suffering. I thought it made me independent sooner. I could fix myself. 😊
