is Christmas morning for Jax

He wakes from a long sleep,

Stretches & demands

tender belly rubs

& furry back massages

Groaning in pleasure

Moos like a cow & then

plays w/ toys

until he gets hungry,

dances in the dawn

barking

excited for the new

day to come, then

out the front door

to do his business

quickly & twirls

impatiently for breakfast

Every day is Christmas Day

for Jax

After breakfast he runs

outside again

Longing to explore

marks the edges of our yard

barks at birds,

a squirrel or doe

Then races back inside

demands a treat

& a brief nap

barks

What was that?

Nothing

Go back to sleep

Wait

Is that the mailman?

Is that snow?

Can I have a treat?

He can’t wait

For the next day

Because it’s Christmas

Again
